Horse Meat Disco return to Glasgow at the beginning of June for another debauched disco party at the legendary Melting Pot which coincides with their second mix release on Strut Records out on the 21st of June. The last party was awesome with James Hillard and Jim Stanton rocking that sweaty little basement to its foundations, so this one should be no different. The music they pluck from obscurity is a joy to be hold and I for one is looking forward to their second installment and also the mix cd forthcoming.

I'm a huge fan of Prins Thomas and was delighted to hear that his new self titled album was due for release next month. The album contains 7 tracks in total of kraut-rock, cosmic disco and was produced live at his studio in Oslo, containing brief guest appearances by Lindstrom and Todd Terje. The album should be released on the 29th of March on Thomas's own Full Pupp label. Amazing stuff as ever from this modern day genius and to wet your appetite here is one of the tracks "Wendy Not Walter". Enjoy

There's so much good music out these days it's so god damn hard to keep up with it all. I reckon though that the latest from Mark E on his very own Merc records titled "Works 2005 - 2009 : Selected Tracks & Edits" is going to be in my opinion in the top ten albums released this year, even though it was only released a few weeks back. Featuring some of his finest moments to date on one disc with the irresistible groove on the opener "Sun Shadow", his re-take on Don Rays "Body & Soul" on "Ray Gun" and surely worth the asking price alone for his take on Janet Jackson with the glorious "R N B Drunkie" which has been huge since its release on 12.
As If that ain't enough to wet your appetite then the man himself will be back gracing the decks again at the Melting Pot on sat the 6th of Feb. So...?, what you waiting for...???

Jerry Fuchs R.I.P

Last week DFA stable drummer Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs sadly lost his life in a tragic accident at a venue in Brooklyn N.Y.
I have always had a fascination with drums and drummers and believe Fuchs to have been one of the finest of the modern era.
He was a member of various groups such as Maserati, !!! (Chik Chik Chik),Turing Machine, Holy Ghost! and the amazing The Juan Maclean to name a few. This video captures the unbelievable talent that he was and was shot at the Double Door in Chicago on June 16th of this year. It's a 20 minute version of "Happy House" by The Juan Maclean and is utterly mesmerising.

I must apologise with the lack of posts lately i've been rather busy and finding the time is difficult. Plus the fact i'm a lazy sod!
Anyway on with the show and first of all i'm really peeved that i didn't get the chance to go to the last couple of Melting Pot nights, not only missing Paul "Mudd" Murphy but also the super Mark Seven!!!
Next up and as always the MP crew have got another sterling line up featuring New Yorker Eric Duncan of Rub 'N' Tug, Birminghams man of the moment Mark E and Glasgows own JD Twitch of Optimo. This is sure to be one helluva party and one not to be missed.

Thanks to all who came out on friday, was a great night even though the weather was rotten.
The beginning of September will see two heavy weights in the disco scene coming together for a Melting Pot extravaganza.
The infamous Horse Meat Disco crew from London and The Melting Pot gang makes this look as though this is gonna be something special and if i'm back in time from having a jont around the balearics then its a night i wouldn't want to miss.

The last Kitchen sessions night went really well and seems most people rather enjoyed themselves. So we have another and this time it's on Friday 14th August so should be good. The night is still in its infancy but we've got a good feeling about it and it lets us play some sweaty house music all night long so that can't be a bad thing!! Right?? Firstly can i just say that the Melting pot night with Dimitri from Paris was outstanding. Al kent warmed us all up very nicely with his unbelievable taste in music and Dimitri truly delivered the goods. I really have to say this but i reckon the guys at Melting pot are putting on the best monthly nights in Glasgow. Although thats just my opinion.
Anyway i shall be at the controls with my good friend Clouston and Colours resident Michael Paterson @ The Soundhaus on the 13th june, so should be a blast and the music will be slanting in a house/techno tip. So without further to do here is a bit of self promotion.

Le Pamplemousse were cult disco producers W.Michael Lewis and Laurin Rinder also famed for their work as El Coco who released some disco nuggets "Le Spank", "Gimme What You Got" and under their El Coco alias "Cocomotion", "Mondo Disco" and "Let's Get It Together". The Invisible Man's Band were the brainchild of Clarence Burke, brother of Keni Burke and originally a member of the Chicago family group The Stairsteps. Together with Alex Masucci, Clarence took the group to Island Records in the late 70's and enjoyed success on the UK soul scene with 'All Night Thing' in 1979.
The album 'Invisible Man's Band' followed the next year along with a follow-up single 'Love Can't Come / Love Has Come'.
The track was released by Island in 1980, but in 1981 they switched to the Boardwalk Entertainment label.The label was owned by Neil Bogart (with whom the group had worked with during their Five Stairsteps days).
Here the group released 'Really Wanna See You', again co-produced with Alex Masucci, containing the popular title track and the much sought after 'Along The Way'.

Well it's friday, although the sun is shining it's a bit on the cold side so i thought i would give you some Motown Disco to warm your cockles up !!! I know some of the purists out there might think this is rather cheesy but i don't care cause i kinda like it.I like the energy the whole album has and the way the tracks are sort of blended together.Here's some notes from the album cover courtesy of Roger St.Pierre ."The music ranges from sweet and lilting to get-down gutbucket funk but in all its kaleidoscopic variety it has a common life-force:it's all representative of the famed Motown Sound, it's all highly danceable and it's pure disco magic". Well said there Roger, so listen out for some nuggets on this release from Music For Pleasure records in 1978.

Well it's been 2 months since i last posted on my blog and with one thing or another i've just not had the time so unfortunately it's taken a bit of a back seat.Hopefully i'll get more time and get the show on the road again.Well that's the theory anyhow!! It's not just me that's been quiet of late,take Paul Flynn Aka DJ Q for example.Until a couple of months ago his name wasn't mentioned much on the underground house scene with his last release back in 2004.Well all i can say is welcome back and what a fine return in his latest release "SuperClique" on NRK records.A real driving stormer with nods in the direction of Chicago/Detroit.He always maintained his music was for the underground and never for the masses which in this day is so utterly refreshing.
On this post i'm going to take you back to 1997 and his seminal E.P "We Are One" released on Filter Records.A bona fide classic with the added weight of a Carl Craig remix.I certainly will be looking out for more quality material from DJ Q hopefully in the not to distant future.

Four Below Zero were a New York-based quartet consisting of Dornell Chavous, Moses McNeil, Cleveland Dickerson and Harry Watson who in 1976 with the help of legendary producer/writer Patrick Adams released the astonishing "My Baby's Got ESP." Picked up on Adams own label P&P Records he then licensed it for a bigger release on Roulette Records which never really hit the heights they had hoped for.
A classic in the true sense of the word and one of those songs that make the hairs tingle on the back of your neck.Anthemic , Uplifting with oodles of Soul it really doesn't get any better.Play this and watch the dance floor melt...

Originally released on Mercury Records in 1979 this was Robin Becks first album titled 'Sweet Talk' featuring backing vocalists of none other than the late great Luther Vandross and Irene Cara of Fame.Born in Brooklyn in 1954 her career started out as a backing singer to Chaka Khan and years later in 1988 she had her first real hit with "The First Time" which featured on a Coca Cola commercial.Dimitri from Paris is certainly no stranger to the disco brigade and here you get his excellent re-edit of the title track "Sweet Talk." Constellation Orchestra was a studio based adventure for producers Moses Billard (Guitarist) and Jesse Boyce (Bass) released on U.S Prelude Records in 1978.Only one album was made with the four tracks being "Funk Encounters" ,"Dancing Angel" ,"Cosmic Melody" and the self titled "Perfect Love Affair."The latter for me is the standout track and when it hits the five minute mark disco heaven is unleashed.No suprise then that the superb Ray Mang uses this to great effect on his "Orchestral Manouvres" track from his excellent album 'Mangled.' Two tracks that would tear up any discerning dance floor without a shadow of doubt.Enjoy...

One of my favourite female vocal artists must be Stephanie Mills. Born in Brooklyn NY on March 22nd 1957 her illustrious career took off from an early age singing in gospel choirs and starring in theatre on Broadway. Musical success was only really gained from the late seventies onwards when she teamed up with producers James Mtume of hit ("Juicy Fruit") and Reggie Lucas with top hits "What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin","You Can Get Over", the Larry Levan favourite "Put Your Body In It" and later the awesome "The Medicine Song" to name just a few. Today i'm going to give you the super sweet "You Can't Run From My Love" released in 1982 on Casablanca Records.I just love this slow boogie jam with those luscious vocals. Here you can enjoy a sample of another very talented lady that emerged from the disco era.

1 Year On...

Well where does a year go?Just realised that my blog has been going now for that long and the time has flown by.So I thought for such a day i would post some good old house music.I'm gonna post three tracks tonight and for three reasons...1 They were close at hand when shifting through stacks of vinyl, 2 There is some top people behind them, 3 There all really f**king good and bring back wonderful memories.
So on with the first one and it's by NYC's Romain & Danny Krivit with their "Philly Groove E.P" which was released in 2000 on US Label Metro Trax.I've chosen the b side "Ride" which is a stonking piece of driving druggy garage/disco with samples from Philly's MFSB's "Family Affair." Mmmmn very tasty!!!
Next up is a track taken from maybe one of my all time favourite party cut up albums.Australian party funksters The Avalanches "Since I Left You" was and still is really something special and an album that you can keep going back to and which still brings a smile to your face.Genius!
Here you get Sarcastic Disco's DJ Harvey getting us all hot and sweaty for some late night action with his 'Nightclub Re-Edit' of "Electricity".
Last but not least is from the Uk Label Azuli with Vol 4 of their Disco Elements series released in 1994 and produced by the ever impressive Rob Mello.This is the first track on the B side "Muzik Takes Me Higher" which samples Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel." I remember at the time this getting caned with the likes of Frankie Knuckles,David Morales and Tony Humphries to name a few.Man it all sounds so good again!!!

An album i've been listening to a lot lately is the wonderful "Cymande" by Cymande.This London based Afro/Caribbean outfit started out in 1971 and blended together a very eclectic fusion of funk, soul, reggae and raw afro funk which can be heard on classic tracks "Bra, Dove, The Message, Promised Heights and Brothers On The Slide". The Band released four albums in the few years together from 1971 to 1974 with three of them released on US label Janus Records.A very talented group which took them years to gain any financial rewards until groups like De La Soul,The Fugees,EPMD and others came along and sampled their music.I could have posted a few of their tracks but i decided on "Bra" from this their first album and as a special treat you also get an edit from New York pioneer Danny Krivit.A Paradise Garage veteran with over 25+ years experience spinning records, producing, editing and hosting the legendary New York club night Body & Soul.DK on his edit "Bra was a street classic that I would hear everywhere, a highlight of most gigs and a difficult thing to constantly manoeuvre live.Originally 5 minutes long,this edit was a way of extending the break without it just sounding like it was repeating.I teased it a little each time and the peak happens 3 times instead of once."

Frantique were made up of Tricia Cheyenne, Florence Raynor and Denise Russelle who in 1979 released their only album titled Frantique on Philadelphia International Records.The album consisted of four tracks "Disco Dancer", "Getting Serious", "Night People These Days" and "Strut Your Funky Stuff" which was produced by Jack Robinson,James Bolden and Vivien Savoie Robinson.For me the pick of the bunch is "Strut Your Funky Stuff" released also on the A side of the only 12" with "Getting Serious" on the flip.An amazing slice of driving philly disco with those vocals telling us to "Get Up...Stand Up...Strut Your Funky Stuff".Sure to tear up any dance floor!!

For me Taana Gardner must have one of the best female voices in the disco world with such great hits as "Heartbeat",When You Touch Me","Work That Body" and maybe not as big as the others but equally one of my favourites "No Frills".Originally released on the late Mel Cheren's WestEnd Record label in 1981 and produced by Kenton Nix this is a real slow dance floor burner.Remixed by the legend Larry Levan and re-released in 1999 for the classic West End Records remixes which features all the above and more.It really doesn't get any better than this... enjoy.

I don't know where the time has gone lately as i just noticed i've not posted anything for over a week,what a slack ass! Ok so hopefully i can make up.The latest offering here comes from the excellent Mastercuts series with the compilation 'Classic Jazz-Funk 6' released in 1996.This was an album i pretty much overlooked for years until the other day when i gave it a play and soon realised there was a lot of damn hot tracks on it. I could have posted a number of tracks off the album but i've decided on Tokyo born Nabuo Yagi's,"Mi Mi Africa".Originally released in 1979 on Invitation Records this is a super piece of jazz,funk,disco with some wonderful harmonica giving it an added twist.With the originals of these trading for big bucks this is a compilation you really should try and get your hands on.Enjoy some jap jazz...

Not much info on this band apart from it was produced by MFSB member Keith Benson and was released on US label WMOT (We Men Of Talent) in 1981.On a similar tip to a previous post "Joyous" by Pleasure this is a lush groovy track with some wonderful sax and those smooth vocals telling us to "Feel It","Can You Feel It Baby".Awesome...

I've been listening to alot of Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael stuff lately and can't get enough of it.Their sound is totally unique and as soon as you here a record you definetly know it's them that are behind it.From P&P records to Red Greg you know for sure everything in between is a true delight.The Universal Robot Band fit in this catagory when they were formed in 1976 by Adams,Carmichael the vocal talents of Leroy Burgess and Woody Cunningham,with Woody going back to become part of the group Kleer.Two albums were produced over two years "Dance and Shake Your Tambourine" and "Freak In The Light Of The Moon" with Adams keeping the name going into the eighties with the 11 min plus boogie smash "Barely Breaking Even" released in 1982.What you get today though is the very hypnotic,driving synth disco workout with those uplifting vocals that is "Freak With Me" which if you ask me is sure to get any dance floor hot and sweaty.Taken from their second album "Freak In The Light Of The Moon" released in 1978 and which also can be found on 'Red Greg'-The Sound Of Gregory Carmichael which was released last year on P&P which i must add is totally mind blowing containing all the classics and more.So without wasting time go spend some of your hard earned on this wonderful music.Enjoy...

A great album i bought recently is the re-mastered philly soul classic by Blue Magic with their self titled album.Originally released in 1974 on ATCO records a division of Atlantic and produced by philly kings Norman Harris and Al Felder with lead vocalist Ted "Wizard" Mills.A delightful soul album that features the cuts "Look Me Up" and "Welcome To The Club" with the latter in later years getting the full edit treatment by Ron Hardy who turns it into a 12 min plus monster.Today though you get the true master on hand Tom Moulton doing what he does best on "Look Me Up".Soul meets disco,a great combination indeed...

Mass production were a 10-piece disco/funk outfit from Richmond,Virginia probably best known fro their hit "Firecracker" released in 1979 which reached no 4 in the R&B charts later that year.'Welcome To Our World' was their first album containing the self titled hit released around 1976 on Atlantic Records subsidiary label Cotillion.'Believe' followed in 1977 containing the space disco jam "Cosmic Lust" proving they were no one-hit wonders.Minor success followed with other small hits until the band dis-jointed around 1983.Certainly a group that could jam a real good groove and work on any discerning dance floor.Quality all round...

This is a very special track indeed and really needs no introduction.D. Train's "You're The One For Me" was released in 1982 by Brooklyn duo James 'D Train' Williams (lead vocals) and Hubert Eaves 111 (keyboards, bass, drums and arrangements) on Prelude records.It gained great success here in the U.K at the time and with Francois Kevorkian on the remix duties it was be getting heavy rotation by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage.This mix though comes from another prolific remixer Shep Pettibone who at the time was also at the forefront with dance mixes on New York's 98.7 Kiss FM.This was released as a double album due to the fact his mixes on radio were so popular and was titled 'Mastermixes'.With his top production/remix skills it wasn't long before he would be in demand with the likes of The Pet Shop Boys,Janet Jackson,Madonna,Erasure and New Order helping them gain chart and club success.So what you get here is a true classic and another piece of dynamite from the amazing Shep Pettibone.

Just love this record from Philly group Breakwater which was released on Arista in 1978 from their self titled album.Formed in 1971 they only went on and produced two albums,this one in 78 and 'Splashdown' in 1980 which included the excellent "Say You Love Me Girl".That was that and soon the group split up and headed off in different directions."Work It Out" is a classic in my book with fantastic vocals,great drum and percussion that makes it feel really loose and easy paced.All in all a great piece of boogie soul making it a must in anyone's collection.

This was the only album released by disco group Wood Brass & Steel with their self titled album released in 1976 on Turbo Records.The two main tracks were "Always There" and "Funkanova" with the latter getting rinsed to great effect by Black Science Orchestra on their early nineties house classic "New Jersey Deep".

Pleasure were formed in Portland,Oregon in the early seventies where they fused soul,funk and jazz to great effect in which they became quite a cult underground group on the black music scene leading into the late seventies."Joyous" was released from the same titled album in 1977 on Fantasy Inc Records and was produced by Wayne Henderson and written by keyboard player and vocalist Michael Hepburn.Working with Wayne Henderson another few albums were released 'Dust Yourself Off' in 1975,'Accept No Substitutes' in 1976 and 'Get To The Feeling' in 1978 until the band started producing their own with 'Future Now' in 1979 and 'Special Things' in 1980 and their last on RCA in 1981 called 'Give It Up' where the group broke up soon after.A very funky group and here you get the sublime talents of master of the edits DJ Harvey extending the original into a 10 min plus dancefloor bomb.

Another cracking album that i've listened to a fair bit lately is the excellent No Such Thing by Swag duo Chris Duckenfield & Richard Brown.Released in 2003 on Version this is Swag at their best with a real groovy dubby sound and every track is geared for dance floor action.I especially like "2+2=5(No Such Remix)" with it's intro being a looped up take on Raw Silks "Do It To The Music" which was released in 1982 on West End Records.If you listen further into the Swag track you will also hear snippets from the Larry Levan remix of Instant Funks "I got my mind made up".I'm sure you'll know the bits i mean "Say What".So to sum it all up 2+2=Swag make really f**king good trippy club music and Raw Silk just say do it to the music.Perfect!

After shifting through some of my music I happened to stumble across the wonderful Ian Pooley album Meridian released in 1998 on V2 Records.Now if you ask me this is an absolute classic and really stands the test of time.This was his first artist album and every track is a winner.Luscious deep discofied tech house is how I would describe this album.Pooley at his best.The big track off the album was the massive "What's Your Number" which got the remix treatment from Jazzanova and Bob Sinclar.I'm going to give you the utterly simple yet brilliant "Disco Love".Look out for a new album released late May called In Other Words and featuring guest vocal talents of Robert Owens and Tim Fuller.

Today I received the first part of a two part new album from The Glimmers called "The Glimmers are Gee Gee Fazzii" which i must say on first listen sounds really f**king amazing.Various inputs and collaborations comes from the likes of Ray Mang,Prins Thomas,Lindstrom,Princess Superstar and CJ Bolland so you get the idea that it's gonna be a mix of cosmic disco,driving upbeat acid house,freaky prince style vocals and plenty of Glimmers party punk funk.Anyway this made me think of their "dj kicks" album from a while back and one song in particular was Kaos "Feel like I Feel(Sing Along)" which featured on the album "Hello Stranger".So after giving it a listen again I was instantly drawn to the fifth track "Town & Countryman(edit)" and soon realised it's an absolute monster of a track.Rolling beats,funky as hell baseline,screamin' chants wrapped up in a whole new wave style punk attitude.
So to sum it up sheer class all round then...

Italian duo Andrea Bellentani and Simon Maccari are The Diaphanoids with their latest EP "Mermaids Of Lunaris" released on Steve Kotey's Bear Funk Records.A label for me that's forever releasing quality leftfield dance music this is all about the B side with the standout track on the EP "Escape From Martius 42".A driving spaced out astro workout with soaring synths that is sure gonna keep the dance floor busy.Essential!!

Once again Quinton Scott pulls out all the stops on Strut Records with the latest release being Funky Nassau:The Compass Point Story 1980-1986.Set up in the Bahamas by Island Records Chris Blackwell,Compass Point Studios attracted various artists eager to capture the magic of the Nassau sound with the genius of Sly & Robbie,engineers Steven Stanley & Alex Sadkin and The Compass Point Allstars Band.Some of the tracks are pretty well known with Tom Tom Club "Genius Of Love" ,Gwen Guthries "Padlock" mixed by Larry Levan and Talking Heads "Born Under Punches" which is from one of my favourite Talking Heads albums "Remain In Light" being the ones that you would instantly recognise.There is other lesser known gems though with the Skids offshoot band Set The Tone getting the remix treatment from Francois K on "Dance Sucker", Sly Dunbar's dub workout on "River Niger" and the amazing Seven Sea Players take on Ian Dury's "Spasticus Autisticus".All in all a great package that comes with a booklet containing extensive sleeve notes and some pretty cool pictures.The track i'm posting is the last on the album and it's an absolute corker.It's a slow mo,scratchy,dub,funky tight jam that has a real groove to it.

Phew! Unfortunately the sun is not here but hopefully soon.Who am I kidding we never get sun in Glasgow!Anyway i'm feeling a little perky as it's bank holiday weekend approaching and this little track makes me smile.Sun hail from Ohio and like other bands Ohio Players,Slave etc they were releasing some hot funk tracks in the seventies."Sun Is Here" was released on Capitol Records in 1978 and is a tight funky number with those "ooh ooh","ooh ooh" chants.Great stuff.
As I said bank holiday this weekend and really looking forward to Greg Wilson at The Melting Pot on sunday night at The Admiral.I've had the pleasure of seeing Greg playing out a couple of times and i'm sure this is going to be another splendid night.

Releasing a record and paying homage to someone like the legendary Ron Hardy i reckon would be no easy task.There is no doubt that he probably doesn't get the same recognition as the likes of Larry Levan or Frankie Knuckles but equally is a true pioneer in terms of what house music is all about today.Chicago Mfon Akpan released an E.P on Soma Records in 1998 with the three tracks called "Ron Hardy's Resurrection,Edge Of The Looking Glass and Music Box" which in my book has created something very special.All three tracks are amazing but this one really does capture a vibe that i can only guess could have been happening when Ron Hardy was DJing at The Music Box.Mfon has created a classic and i'm pretty sure if Ron Hardy was here today he would agree.

Double Exposure gained major success with their first release on Salsoul in 1976 with the album "Ten Percent".The opening track aptly named "Ten Percent" became the first ever commercial 12" release and was remixed by the master Walter Gibbons.This came about after Gibbons won a contest set by Salsoul for New York DJs to submit a mix of "Ten Percent".Other hits off the album were "My Love Is Free" and "Everyman" but for me "Ten Percent" shades it.Here you get the album version and Walter Gibbons 12" mix. I would reckon most people will have heard of Atmosfears Dancing In Outer Space which was championed by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage and gained huge success in the U.S and U.K.Today though i'm going to post a couple of tracks that i personally think are up there to.
Born in 1951 in North London Andy Sojka spent much of the seventies as a local record retailer and running a dance music shop in Harlesden,London specialising in soul,funk,reggae and U.S imports.Capitalising on the current scene and seizing the moment bubbling around the dance floor's around London he founded Atmosfear around 1977.His first hit and their first recording was Dancing In Outer Space released on his own newly formed Elite record label in 1979.F**k me what a way to start!!!To this day this track is still an undoubted Classic and through the nineties was remixed by the likes of Masters at Work,Dimitri From Paris and Francois Kevorkian.Tragically Andy Sojka passed away in Febuary 2000 aged just 48 only days after securing a deal to re-issue the whole Elite catalogue and in the middle of creating a new Atmosfear album Groove World which i think has never seen the light of day.His legacy still lives on and i'm pretty sure one day we will all be Dancing In Outer Space......

I came across this a couple of weeks ago and was instantly drawn and intrigued by the whole concept.The words alone Mutant Disco,Disco Dust and the title of the tracks was enough for me to part with some hard earned bucks!First listen and i was blown away as to the quality of each track with the stand out one being Love Disco (Tribute Mix) which is a take on the Demis Roussos classic L.O.V.E Got a hold of me.The rest of the tracks on this E.P are all amazing and i've soon found out that this is vol 2 from a collection of four and another E.P released this year.I will definetly be making more purchases from this label and look forward to more quality stuff from them in the near future.I suggest you have a look at their Myspace and purchase some of their fine music.I really can't speak highly enough of this ace label.I've also included the original released in 1978 for you to enjoy..

Well it's nearly the end of another year and i'm going to be posting a real favourite of mine.I've been meaning to post this for a while now so here it is.The reason behind it is from a night in Glasgow a few years back when the legendry DJ "Jeremy Newall" came to town.The Riverside Club was the venue and at the time there was a couple of great nights taking place with the awseome Melting Pot and Salt Lick.Anyway what i recall of that night was the place decked out like the old Loft and Gallery parties that were happening in New York in the 70's.Wooden dancefloor and loads of balloons suspended over the dancefloor in nets.The night was set and "Newall" mixed and weaved his disco magic like i've never seen before.A truly amazing DJ with a tracklisting to boot.This track was dropped peak time of the night and the balloons were released and i remember thinking it just can't get any better than this.
Turn this up loud and i'll see you all in 2008.

Formed in 1972 they had some various name changes including "The Universal Robot Band" until they became "Kleeer" in 1979.Signing to 'Atlantic Records'they had some success on both sides of the atlantic but for me this is their stand out track.

This album has been getting some air plays here recently as to the lack of sun were now getting in this part of the world.Winter is creeping in and i'm dying to be lying on that hammock!
The album is "Soul Food Taqueria" by "Tommy Guerrero" and was released on the UK label "Mo Wax" in 2003.
Born in the 60's Guerrero became a prominent member of a pro skateboarding team in the 80's in his home town San Francisco where he went on to start skateboarding company "Real".With success here he turned to his other passion- music.He started off in a couple of bands and then went solo where he released some singles,Ep's and albums and a DJ mix on the "AnotherLateNight" series on "Azuli" which i may add is also excellent.Enjoy some spliffed out pacific vibes and purchase "Soul Food Tequeria" you won't be disappointed.

This is all about the track 'Searching' which came out on the album "Glow Of Love" in 1980 by the group "Change".A young and up-in coming "Luther Vandross" is on lead vocals for this one.I'm posting this mainly for the "Graeme Park"(parkside remix) which he done in the early 90's maybe around 91.Born in Aberdeeen moved to England and began his DJ career in Nottingham and then to the infamous "Hacienda" In Manchester.Wow i remember the first time Graeme Park came to the 'Sub Club' in Glasgow around 93 and totally blew the roof off with his set.There was alot of stand out tracks that night but this one was near the end and just one of those that captures what Park was all about.Utterly amazing and i can still recall that special....special night.You just can't buy those memories for all the money in the world.I still have 90 minutes of that set on tape(shit!weird talking about tapes now with all this digital stuff)and some day would like to try and post it here.Think sound quality may have faded a bit though.
Anyway as a treat i thought i would post the original 12" also for your listening pleasure...Enjoy

"Whomadewho" are Tomas Barford,Tomas Hoffding,Jeppe Kjellberg and hail from Copenhagen in Denmark.The album was released in 2005 on the German label 'Gomma Records' and this is the first track titled "Rose".A heady mix of punk funk and nu wave this is as funky as hell and this track has a very "Talking Heads" feel to it with its driving bassline and floating vocal.Their second album should be finished and ready for release sometime soon.

Released in 1997 on Daniel Wang's own label 'Balihu Records' this track has been taken from the B side of Mood Mylar.It's a low slung chuggin groove with some uplifting keys that sweeps along at just under 8 minutes.This one will definetly keep the head noddin' and toes tappin'.Here's some background info on Daniel Wang courtesy of 'Discogs'............
"Born in Northern California, Daniel Wang spent 8 years of his childhood in Taiwan, returned to California for high school, and attended university in New York and Chicago. Instead of finishing his papers, however, he ran out to underground clubs and danced all night to early house music and disco classics, befriending and learning from a few old-school voguers and DJs along the way.
Dissatisfied with the increasingly unmusical soundtrack of modern nightlife, Danny started Balihu Records in 1993. The first release became a cult success. Danny moved back to NYC and eventually found a job at Dr. Sound Music Store, where he delved deeply into vintage production gear and synths, including the Theremin.
Balihu put out a range of unusual tracks from 1994 to 2000 in the spirit of Philly and Italo Disco, and Wang began producing for the Environ label in 1997. In the past 2 years, he has performed around the world, and his originality is gradually being recognized".

I remember the first time i heard this track and thinking what the F**k is this!I had never heard anything like it and it totally blew me away.I managed to track down a copy a few years later.Released on the truly awesome 'Salsoul Records' in 1978 this was(in my opinion)the definitive 'Larry Levan' remix.When you listen to the album version to this masterpiece by Levan you get the concept of the true genius that he was.This is without doubt a dancefloor killer!!

Crazy day!

Let me tell you about the weekend just passed first of all.Saturday was a day filled of hype,emotion,fun and damn right out the ordinary.This is the reason why!There was a very important football game being played here in Glasgow between my home nation Scotland and current world champions Italy at hampden park.We needed a win to qualify for euro 2008 and Italy needed a draw.We didn't get the result we so craved but what a rollercoaster of a journey!I have never experienced so much hype for a game in all my 30 something years....eeerrm!!! than this game.It was incredible!!From young kids to old grannies everyone wanted a piece of the action and were decked out in Scotland gear from scarves to flags.My day started by having to work then at 4 scooted off down to the local to meet my girlfriend and a crowd of friends to watch the game starting at 5.The weather was terrible pouring of rain and cold and when you mix that with hundreds of bodies in a warm pub you get the kind of atmoshere reserved for a nightclub,i.e hot sweaty and condensation running down the windows and walls.But hey we didn't care cause we were all here to hopefully witness a piece of history and forget about the bloke that fainted with the heat.Pick him up and stick another beer down him he'll be fine!Ok the game ebbed and flowed and one minute we were there next we knew our fate was sealed.That was that and we now need to look at qualifying for the world cup in 2010.So the game was finished and people had mixed emotions but there was another event planned in the pub.Yes it was.......wait for it......A David Bowie tribute band called 'Tigers On Vaseline' Wow the day was crazy enough but this was the icing on the cake!They were brilliant belting out all the hits and soon people forgot(with the amount of alcohol i must say)about the events that unfolded earlier in the day.Not sure i've experienced a day like that for a long while where you can have such a mixed up crazy day filled with laughter,pain and damn good fun.
Back to this post and this goes to all my fellow countrymen who marched through the pissin rain to see this game.Also it goes without saying it's a Disco Classic!

Bought this the other week and can't stop listening to it.Wow what an amazing record.Debut release made up of a couple of EP's and one other track this has been described as the missing link between Fleetwood Mac,Pink Floyd,Ozric Tentacles and Santana added with a Balearic twist.Wonderful stuff and I can't recommend this highly enough.Go buy you won't be disapointed.

It's amazing what you find when you trawl through your music collection and find things that you forgot you had.This is from 'Troublemakers' who are 'Amaud Taillefer,Fred Berthet and DJ Oil' from Marseille which was released in 2001 on Guidance Records.The album is called "Doubts & Convictions" and the tracks i've posted are "Electrorloge" which i would say sounds very 'Alan Parsons Project' in bits which is no bad thing with it's utterly hypnotic groove and "Chez Roger Boite Funk" which is Marseille v New York gritty funk.

Released in 1980 from the album "Power" this is the first track funny enough called "Power".The Temptations have done numerous amazing tracks but in my opinion I reckon this is up there with the best of them.Tracks like "Ball Of Confusion,Law Of The land,Papa Was A Rolling Stone,My Girl" to name a few were certainly more of the well known ones but this song captures the raw funkier side which in my opinion was their best stuff.Power indeed!!!!

This was released in 1998 from the 'Idjut Boys' moniker 'The Phantom Slasher' on their Noid Records.The track i've posted is called 'Toilet Trader' and is an absolute masterpiece if you ask me.It starts and ends like an old nursery rhyme and then the drums kick in and turns into this groove with a big band sound that takes the listener on a epic hypnotic journey.Disco Heaven......end of night anthem!!

This is a track from the excellent album by 'Deep Fuzz'(Ben Cook of Rong Records) called "Body karate" out on the amazing Noid Records in 2000.I've chosen "Hangin on" but every track is twisted discoid heaven.Just don't try those karate moves on the dancefloor or someone will get hurt!!!!Right?

Taken from "The Best Of Crown Heights Affair" album originally released in 1980 on the De-Lite label this super sweet jam "Foxy Lady" came out in 1975.
So typical of that era with those wah wah's and spoken vocal and then that lovely warm base and horns kick in.Dynamite!!!

This is all about an Italian club in the 80's called COSMIC.The DJ was Daniele Baldelli.These tracks comes from a double disc inside the first official book.The book has 60 odd pages of fantastic photos of the club.I highly recommend you buy this.
